Freeze requests to crypto exchanges: what to send and when

If your money reached an exchange, that exchange knows who the account belongs to. Ask it to freeze the account and keep the records for police.

Exchanges check the identity of their customers (KYC). When stolen money lands in an exchange account, the exchange can freeze that account and hand its records to the police.

What to send

  • The deposit address at the exchange and the transaction hash of the deposit.
  • The full trail from your wallet, from your evidence pack.
  • A short statement that the funds were stolen or obtained by fraud.
  • Your police report reference, or a note that you are filing one.
  • A request to freeze the funds and preserve the account records for the police.

Where to send it

Each exchange has its own route. See the profile pages for Binance and OKX. Police use a separate channel for official requests.

Be realistic

Exchanges get many requests and refuse those without evidence. A clear, fast, evidenced letter, plus a police report, gives you the best chance.
