Warning: people who promise to get your crypto back for a fee are almost always scammers. Check a recovery service

Is this a scam? Check before you pay

Paste a wallet, website, Telegram account, phone number or company name. We tell you if other people have reported it, and what the warning signs are.

How to use it

  1. Copy the thing you are unsure about: the wallet address they asked you to pay, the website or app, their Telegram account, their phone number, or the name of the company.
  2. Paste it in the box above and press Check it.
  3. Read the result and the warning signs. If anything feels wrong, do not pay.

Already lost money?

Go to what to do first. If someone is now offering to get it back for a fee, check the recovery service first: most are a second scam.

Help warn others

If you were scammed, report the wallet, website or account. It takes a minute, it is anonymous, and it warns the next person who checks.

Warning signs of a recovery scam

If any of these is true, stop and do not pay:

  • They contacted you first, or found you through a comment or a group.
  • They promise or guarantee to get your money back.
  • They ask for a fee, a 'tax' or a 'release fee' before anything happens, especially in crypto.
  • They say they can 'hack' the scammer or 'reverse' a blockchain payment.
  • They claim to work with the police, the FBI, Interpol or an exchange, but you can't check it.
  • They have no real office, licence or registered company you can look up.

Only exchanges, stablecoin issuers, police and courts can freeze or return crypto. Real lawyers and police never ask for crypto to “release” your funds.

Common questions

If nothing is found, is it safe?

No. It only means nobody has reported it to us yet. Scammers open new websites and wallets every day, so always check the warning signs too.

Where do the results come from?

From anonymous reports sent by victims through our report form, and from public lists of exchange and sanctioned wallets. We never show who sent a report.

Something about me is listed by mistake. What can I do?

Email us with the entry and why it is wrong. An editor will review the reports and hide any that are false.
